Evaluation of our grants - Expressions of interest wanted

The National Lottery Charities Board makes grants to charities, voluntary and community groups. We aim to help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage and improve the quality of life in the community.

We are compiling a list of external organisations to help us evaluate the impact of our grants. We want these organisations to help us develop appropriate evaluation methods and to carry out evaluative research for us.

The first evaluation research we want to commission will consider the difference we have made to:

  • voluntary sector infrastructure
  • community halls and other community buildings; and
  • meeting the specific needs of minority ethnic communities.

In the future we want to develop a process of self-evaluation to be used by the groups we fund.

We are now inviting expressions of interest from organisations that want to assist us with this work. Organisations must meet the following requirements.

  • be able to demonstrate specific experience in evaluative research;
  • be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the three areas specified above or in self-evaluation;
  • have an understanding of the voluntary sector; and
  • experience in evaluating the impact of grant making on organisations in receipt of funds and the people they benefit is desirable but not essential.

Organisations which meet our requirements most thoroughly will be put on to our list and will be invited to tender for specific projects as appropriate. We will review this list periodically. We plan to invite tenders for our first project in April.

Interested organisations should send written expressions of interest to arrive by 5pm, Friday 30 March to: Sue Bryan, Head of Strategic Policy and Research, National Lottery Charities Board, St Vincent House, 16 Suffolk Street, London SW1 4NL.
