    Over £2.8million was awarded to 24 groups across the West Midlands region under the Board�s Community involvement and Poverty and disadvantage programmes. Regional Development Officer, Philip Thompson said: " We want to help improve communities�these grants do just that for so many people�.. they all have one thing in common - making a difference to local people."

    Groups awarded a grant include Droitwich Single Homeless Project, who will provide advice, support and training to the young people who are at risk of becoming homeless. The grant of £96,974 will pay for staff salaries and running costs. Woolhope Parish Hall will use their grant of £24,457 to pay for external surfacing to the Hall enabling older people and those with disabilities to use the Hall�s meeting facilities. South Aston Community Association were awarded £387,772 to build and run a �Quality of Life� centre in the disadvantaged area of South Aston, Birmingham.

    The West Midlands office awarded £656,726 to 198 organisations under the joint distributor scheme Millennium Festival Awards for All, a new Lottery funding programme to help support local groups. It aims to fund groups which involve people in the local community to enjoy arts, charities, sports and heritage activities and fund projects which celebrate the Millennium. Grant of between £500 and £5000 will help groups to involve more people to do different things and to create a lasting benefit for communities.

    Groups awarded grants include Riding for the Disabled who were awarded £1,800 to buy a driving pony. Moccas Cricket Club will use their grant of £5,000 to pay for practice facilities and equipment, enabling the Club to work with local schools and youth organisations to provide coaching to youngsters in a rural region of Herefordshire. Shropshire Mines Trust will use their grant of £5,000 to produce a book to catalogue the social history of the mining communities of South Shropshire.

  • 20 September 99
    The application line for the Fouth International grants programme opens on Monday 20th September. Under this programme the Board aims to fund development projects which address the causes of poverty and inequality. In the first three programmes a total of £82.6m was awarded to 423 UK based voluntary organisations working abroad. Further details available from IGP pages.

  • 24 September 99
    The West Midlands office will move from its current premises on the fourth floor of Edmund House to the newly refurbished eighth floor in the same building. Telephone lines will be down from Friday 24 to Wednesday 29 September. Please call Corporate office for enquiries.
