5 August 1999 All ages benefit from grants to Local CharitiesThe National Lottery Charities Board will today award £333,120 to groups in Nottinghamshire to help them make a lasting difference to their communities. The grants form part of a £1,532,232 range of awards to 21 groups by the Charities Board’s East Midlands office, under its Community involvement and Poverty and Disadvantage programmes. People of all ages will benefit from the awards, from children to retirement groups. Charities Board Regional Manager Leonie Lupton said: "Our grants are assessed and awarded by local people, for local people - we have now given £22,636,496 to Nottinghamshire since 1995. The Charities Board distributes money raised by the National Lottery to charities and voluntary and community groups. The Board distributes grants to help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage in society and to improve the quality of life of the community. 2. The Board receives 4.7p of every pound spent on National Lottery tickets or 16 2/3 per cent of all the money that goes to the ‘good causes’. 3. Nearly 11,000 new jobs have been created as a result of Charities Board awards. |
