£12.8 million to improve people's living environment awards by the National Lottery Charities Board in Scotland

The National Lottery Charities Board in Scotland today announced £12.8 million of grants to 114 voluntary and community groups across Scotland under its Improving people’s living environment and Voluntary sector development grants programme.

The largest grant went to Quarriers Homes in Glasgow which receive £560,697 over three years to set up a befriending scheme to provide support and assistance for Glasgow’s most vulnerable young homeless people. The smallest grant went to Aberdeen Neighbourhood Watch Association to produce a newsletter to increase awareness of crime prevention. Chair of the Scotland Committee of the Charities Board, Garth Morrison, said ‘A total of £12,881,686 in grants is going to 294 voluntary and community groups across Scotland.

‘Today’s main recipients include those working to find appropriate housing for the homeless, furniture projects; care and repair schemes; meals on wheels; befriending projects and support for people with special needs.

‘They are key projects which make a significant difference to the quality of community life by helping to improve people’s living environment.

‘This is the fifth and last main themed grants programme to be announced by the Charities Board. In the last two years, it has funded more than 2,000 grants worth £85 million in Scotland.

‘From inner cities to rural communities, we are committed to creating a strong identity and awareness of the Charities Board amongst Scottish voluntary and community organisations and would encourage those that need funding support to apply under our current grants programme - Community involvement.
