Another 264 grants awarded by the Charities Board Scotland

The National Lottery Charities Board Scotland today announces another 264 small grants worth £609,864 to voluntary and community groups across Scotland.

Recipients range from the Southern Sound Hospital Broadcasting Service based in Glasgow which gets £4,910 for radio and music equipment to the Shapinsay Community Association in Orkney which gets £4,958 to buy curtains, fittings and a phone booth.

Other groups typical of those to benefit are The Krankies based in Stranraer, which gets £2,911 to purchase equipment which will aid the mobility of group members when providing its activities and fellowship services to the elderly, disabled and house-bound; Red School Youth Centre, Prestonpans, which gets £3,399 to buy musical equipment; and Thursday Morning Parents Support Group, Lochgelly, which gets £2,320 to purchase books, videos, furniture and equipment.

The fast track small grants scheme enables small groups whose yearly income is less than £10,000 to apply for funding of between £500 and £5000 for one-off projects. Application packs for small grants are available by calling 0345 775500.

Making today's announcement, Chair of the Scotland Committee of the Charities Board, Garth Morrison, said: "This is the fourth small grants release by the Charities Board Scotland in the last six months, taking the total awarded to £2,790,600 in 1,281 grants.

"Today's announcement of a further £609,864 to another 264 voluntary and community groups across Scotland clearly illustrates the Board's continuing commitment to the many small organisations which are so vital to the very fabric of their communities."

Although application lines are now closed for the Charities Board Scotland's 5th main Grants round - Improving people's living environment - the Board is soon to announce details of its 6th grant round - Community involvement - which aims to support work which encourages people to become more involved in their community's activities.
