19 June 1996 National Lottery Charities Board announces International Grants ProgrammeThe National Lottery Charities Board has announced a programme offering £25 million in grants for UK based agencies working abroad. The grants will be for a minimum of £5,000 for overseas projects. As with all the grant programmes, there is no maximum amount. David Sieff, Chairman of the National Lottery Charities Board, said: ‘I am delighted we are announcing the details of our International Grants Programme. British people give generously to organisations helping to overcome problems faced by those overseas. It is entirely right that lottery money should assist these groups. ‘We want to encourage the excellent work being done by many UK-based agencies abroad which have such a high reputation. We hope that the money we allocate will help them to develop their existing programmes and enable them to set up new and innovative projects.’ The Board’s main aim in the International Grants Programme is to give grants to support organisations which help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage in society and improve the quality of life in the community. To do this, the Board seeks to support imaginative developmental programmes which address the causes of poverty and inequality. |
